IOT (internet of things) and Food Security
The use of IOT devices, like PEGS (paper-based electrical gas sensors) or colorimetric gas sensors, allow existing food production to be more efficiently used as food spoilage would be detected at an early stage. this allows for better planning an allocating of food supplies, leading to more efficient usage of food stores and less food wastage.
the use of IOT devices is not limited to the aspects of storage and packaging but also thought the whole food production. the use of soil and sunlight sensors helps farmers better monitor their fields. the use of humidity and nutrient sensors in vertical and hydroponic farms respectively, have allowed for more precise growing methods. the data gathered is then processed and used to help further refine the entire production method.
Utilizing IOT devices in sectors like transportation and resale allows for trends to be observed and bottlenecks to be spotted (after enough data has been gathered) and analyzed. This leads to greater efficiency through out the production system, from soil to shelves.
