GANTT CHARTS
Gantt charts are very useful for helping monitor a project's timeline. Each activity/task is assigned a certain amount of time and the times can be colour coded to help illustrate the progression of a project. Activities can occur simultaneously or be completely independent of each other.
Colours can also be used to demonstrate if a something goes wrong, for example when a task is lagging behind. Supper detailed charts can have a vast amount of information available at a a glance, which is useful for when a person doesn't want to go through allot of documents to find a particular time duration or date of completion.
The Gantt chart used for this project is fairly simple as the colours are only used to differentiate between tasks or show when tasks are occurring simultaneously (Concept generation + Concept selection). Each month is estimated to have 4 weeks and most tasks were estimated to only take one week's worth of time.
Most of the tasks for the preliminary report took a week each to complete, but for the second part of the project the timelines begin to increase as new data is generated, analysed and discussed.
Overall it is a very useful tool for creating time estimates and schedules, in a vibrant (subjective) format.
